Rio 2016 Olympiad: 2013 - 2016
Zak has been selected to race in the lightweight men's quadruple scull in Aiguebelette at the 2015 World Rowing Championships; he will be joined by fellow U23 crewmates Steven Parsonage, Sam Mottram and Jamie Copus.
At the 2015 GB Rowing Team Senior and U23 Trials, Zak finished fifth in the lightweight men's single scull. He was later selected to race this boat at the 2015 European Rowing Championships in Poznan, finishing fourth. Together with Sam Mottram, Zak raced in the lightweight men's double scull at the second World Cup event of 2015 in Varese, finishing 13th.
During the 2014 season, Zak made his first appearance at a senior international competition as he competed in the lightweight men's single at the second World Cup in Aiguebelette, finishing third in the B final. He was selectd a spare for the World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam but raced in the lightweight men's single and finished a fine tenth overall.
In 2013 he raced at the World Rowing U23 Championships in Linz, Austria, and made the A Final of the lightweight men's single scull, finishing sixth.
Zak raced in the lightweight men's double scull with Jamie Coombes at the 2012 World Rowing U23 Championships in Trakai, finishing eightth overall. At the 2012 GB Rowing Team Senior & U23 Trials Zak was seventh in the lightweight men's single scull.
London 2012 Olympiad: 2009 - 2012
Zak raced in the lightweight men's quadruple scull at the 2010 World Rowing U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus, where he won a fine bronze medal.
Zak started rowing in year 8 of school at the Llandaff Rowing Club. At the time he was also a keen swimmer but could not commit to both. In September 2007 he committed to rowing and began training in Cardiff Bay with the Welsh Squad. In 2009 he won gold in the junior men's quad at the Home International Regatta.
Beyond the Boat
Zak took part in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, carrying the flame through his hometown of Cardiff.
He can speak Welsh and studied Dentistry at Manchester University, graduating in 2014.
Zak was a member of the GB Rowing Team's Start Programme and is Lottery funded through UK Sport.
