Wallingford Rowing Club – Learn to Row Coach

Wallingford Rowing Club are looking for a Learn to Row(LTR)/Novice Coach for the summer of 2022. With the primary goal of this position to develop rowers a high emphasises put on finding an engaging individual, with a passion for the sport who can teach effectively.

Currently there are planned to be 5 learn to row courses run between May and July this summer. The coach will be responsible for the delivery of the LTR courses, novice gym sessions and as individuals graduate from the LTR into the novice squad. Given sufficient retention of novice members and opportunity for both the coach and club, it is hoped that the coach will be retained to develop the novice squad beyond the initial summer period.

If desired by all parties, there may also be additional opportunities to pick up extra hours coaching senior and veteran squads.

Key points

  • LTR courses will consist of 4×2 hour sessions
  • 4 individuals per course
  • 2 novice gym sessions of 1 hour each per week
  • 2 novice water sessions of 2 hours each per week once graduated from LTR
  • Coach pay rate of up to £20/hour dependent on experience

Organisation

The coach will be responsible for liaising with novices to ensure that outings are co-ordinated. The committee will support the coach and squad with boats and resources but this will need to be carefully managed with the other squads.

The coach will be a freelance contractor of Wallingford Rowing Club.

Profile

  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants and committee
  • Sufficient rowing experience to coach at this level
  • Level 2 powerboat or ability to demonstrate competence and experience driving launches
  • DBS check, or willing to have one undertaken
  • BR Level 2 coaching (desirable)
