St George’s College, Weybridge – Head of Rowing

St George’s College is seeking to appoint an inspirational Head of Rowing, to lead, coach and continue to develop rowing at St George’s College, Weybridge. The correct candidate will be required to work both at a performance and participation level, playing a vital role in the delivery of short, medium and longer term objectives at one of the best co-educational sporting day schools in the country.

Rowing has a rich history at St George’s College, with both boys’ and girls’ programmes going from strength to strength. We compete on the highest stages, including the Schools’ Head of the River, National Schools’ Regatta, Henley Royal Regatta and Women’s Henley. As well as this we have students aiming for junior international representation. It is an incredibly exciting time to join, with our world class Activity Centre offering a strength & conditioning Gym including 18 ergs and a Boat Club on the River Thames (scheduled for redevelopment in 2023).

Rowing is a main sport for boys and girls from Third Year onwards. The Head of Rowing will be required to plan and coach at all levels during the timetabled games sessions for each year group, as well as at the pre and post school training sessions. There is a comprehensive race list throughout the year, including a number of internal regattas and events.

The successful candidate will have a proven coaching record and will be able to deliver high quality coaching of rowing to students of all abilities, from novice to international standard. It is desirable that the post holder will have performed or coached to a high standard and will have a strong pastoral awareness of the needs of students. The successful candidate will be expected to motivate their team of staff and students and work closely with the Director of Sport whilst delivering high quality coaching to pupils of all abilities. It is expected that all applicants will be passionate and self-motivated, yet will have the ability to work as part of a team – within the PE & Games department and the wider College community where all sports co-exist. Applicants for this post may be teachers who have the ability to teach an additional subject or may be coaches.
