Gippsland Grammar, Australia – Gap Year Assistant Rowing Coaches (3)

Gippsland Grammar are seeking three, final year, University students (undergraduate or postgraduate) to add significant value to the School’s Rowing program as part of a graduate gap year opportunity available under a Temporary Activity Visa.

The opportunities we have on offer are rewarding, allowing involvement in the continued development of an established culture in the pursuit of excellence and high performance, with this extending beyond time spent at Gippsland Grammar.

We are interested to hear from individuals who believe they can function as part of a coaching team to add significant value to the Rowing program, beyond their skills on the water as a coach.

Degree subject, strengths and interests will be taken into consideration when allocating an area of responsibility and a crew or squad. The secondary duties will be allocated based on area of expertise.

The School seeks expressions of interest from individuals that hold:

  • A willingness to be involved in the life of rowing in an Australian school
  • University level education
  • An ability to engage and maintain professional relationships with members of the School community
  • Three years plus experience in sculling, sweep or coxing
  • Experience in coaching in a Rowing program (desirable but not essential)
  • A team work ethic and excellent organisational skills
  • Eligibility to obtain a Temporary Activity Visa

Those appointed will be required at the School from approximately mid-July 2023 until early April 2024. This opportunity is available through a Temporary Activity Visa (sub class 408 Special Program category), under which Gippsland Grammar sponsors visa applicants. The visa application is the responsibility of the appointee and further details can be found via:

We have successfully run our gap rowing coaching program for over 15 years and have welcomed individuals from Britain, Ireland, Canada, the USA and South Africa.

Gap coaches who have worked with us have been able to experience a high level of rowing and sculling ability, including Gippsland Grammar crews qualifying for Henley Royal Regatta, Junior World Championships and regular participation in underage state teams.

We have also successfully helped rowers continue on their rowing journey, with a number returning home to successfully pursue high performance club and national team ambitions in the sport.
