Athlete Director – British Rowing (Volunteer)

British Rowing is seeking to appoint a new Athlete Director to the Board of British Rowing. This is a voluntary role with the successful candidate being elected to the Board for up to a four-year term.

The Board of British Rowing defines as Athlete Director in their Articles of Association as: “An athlete who at the time of their first appointment to the Board represented Great Britain in the Olympic or Paralympic Games or World Championships in the most recent Olympiad (being the four-year cycle, in which the first year is the calendar year in which the summer Olympic Games are due to take place) and appointed as a Director in accordance with Article 14 of British Rowing Articles of Association.” For the current appointment, this means during 2020-2023.

An applicant will not be eligible for the role of Athlete Director if they are currently part of an international event or team, or if they put themselves forward for selection for any international event or team.

This is a great time to join British Rowing with lots of exciting opportunities ahead as we execute our new strategy which focuses on growth, members, and the community. We aim to expand our membership across all regions and sections of the population with a particular focus on building communities and opening up the sport to everyone. In addition, we are actively pursuing new areas of the sport including the growth of indoor rowing and coastal rowing – having successfully held the World Coastal Championships in Wales in 2022. To do this we will be embracing digital in everything we do. British Rowing is also accountable for the GB Team who had a very positive performance in 2022, as part of their Olympic cycle planning for Paris 2024.
