The Commonwealth Beach Sprints will take between 17 and 18 August 2018 at Sandbanks Beach, Poole, England

Crews from the Commonwealth Nations will take part in the Commonwealth Beach Rowing Sprints Championships between 17 and 18 August 2018 at Sandbanks Beach, Poole, England.

Men’s and women’s coastal singles and doubles (CM1x/CW1x/CM2x/CW2x), and coastal mixed coxed quads (CMixd4x) will race on the water in their own individual events, with the men’s and women’s coastal singles and doubles also involved in a mixed relay event.

Racing format

Racing starts on foot with a beach sprint of between 10m and 50m. Rowers will then enter the boat and slalom the boat around three buoys over a 250m course.  They will then row straight back to the beach before exiting the boat and running across the finish line on the beach.

For coastal singles, the rower completes all parts. For doubles and quads, a rower from the crew completes the start and finish beach sprints.

Entries

Entries to the Commonwealth Beach Rowing Sprints Championships are open to all Commonwealth nations.

FISA and Olympic Solidarity are supporting a training camp for some of the FISA Development Programme nations, and workshops and training will be provided prior to the two-day event for umpires and coaches as well as athletes as this is a new event to so many.

Anyone who takes part in the Commonwealth Beach Rowing Sprints Championships will be invited to participate in the British Rowing Offshore Championships which take place on 18 and 19 August in Poole. The Offshore Championships is run over a 6km course. More information can be found here.

England Rowing will be represented at the 2018 Commonwealth Beach Rowing Sprints Championships.

Media

Any members of the media, including photographers, who wish to attend the event must be accredited in advance by British Rowing.

Accreditation closes five days in advance of the event starting.

Official photography

WEROW and a British Rowing photographer will be on site throughout the event. These photographs will be used in publicity by British Rowing, in print and online.

Any other photographers wishing to attend the event to publish images online must complete the media accreditation in advance of the event and be identifiable throughout the event with a media bib. Spectators

It’s a non-ticketed event on the beach, giving fans the chance to get up close to the start and finish line of this exciting sprint event.
