Tom is from a close and competitive rowing family

His two older brothers rowed and his sister Emily is part of the GB women’s squad.

His Olympic dream began when, as a child, Olympic champion Matt Langridge came to his school to talk about his own Olympic experiences. This inspired Tom, as did seeing Matt’s full set of gold, silver and bronze Olympic medals.

After graduating from Newcastle University in 2015, he joined Leander Club in Henley-on-Thames to train full time, making his GB rowing team debut in 2017. Tom made his Olympic debut at the delayed Tokyo Olympic 2020 games, winning a bronze medal. Since then he has stroked the men’s eight to back to back World Championship titles.

Tom and Emily were one of a number of siblings to represent Team GB at the Tokyo Games, but the only brother and sister combination to take to the field of play. Going through the process of training, competing and selection with his sister is very important to Tom and it will be rather unique to be a brother and sister representing Team GB at two consecutive games. He is excited about the prospect of making the Paris team alongside Emily and having his family there to see them compete live.
