Former GB triathlete, Thomas Jeffery joins the GB Rowing Team for the first World Cup of the 2017 season.
Thomas Jeffery was introduced to rowing while studying at Oxford Brookes University, but it took a back seat as he pursued other sports.
After damaging his Achilles tendon playing rugby Jeffery was left unable to run, ending his ultra-marathon days. He found himself using the rowing machine as a training tool, and later joined Thames Rowing Club in Putney, where he won trophies at Henley Royal Regatta for two consecutive years: the Thames Cup in 2015 and Visitors’ Challenge Cup in 2016.
He was invited to train with the GB Rowing Team in 2017 and made his senior debut in the men’s eight at the European Championships. He won his first medal at the second World Cup, with a bronze in the eight, before making the B final of the men’s four in a young crew at the Lucerne regatta.
For the World Championships in Sarasota-Bradenton, Jeffery paired up with Tom George, finishing fifth in the A final.

Away from the river, Tom unwinds by watching rugby, playing golf or walking in the countryside. Having grown up in the south west, he is a keen surfer: “unfortunately Henley doesn’t offer world class waves!”
His favourite travel destination is the Pyrenees mountain range in the summer, which he loves for the cycling and hiking. If stranded on a desert island he would hope to be left with BT Sport, golf clubs and Mumford and Sons album. His dream dinner party guests are Ricky Gervais, Stephen Fry and Bob Marley – roast would likely be on the menu.
