Sam grew up in Gateshead, moved to Frinton when she was 12/13 and went to University in Norwich where she lived and worked for seven years.
Sam started rowing at the University of East Anglia in 2013 where she first fell in love with the sport. She rowed intermittently for the following few years while working in the Norfolk and Norwich hospital as an assistant practitioner until her coach at Norwich Rowing Club persuaded her to trial for GB in 2018/2019. Since then, she’s won multiple medals at World Rowing Cups, European Championships and Henley Royal Regatta in pairs, fours and eights. She became World Champion in the women’s four in 2022.
Sam loves to bring her favourite game shows to life and so far has hosted games of Taskmaster (with Jess Leyden as co-host) and Traitors during training camps. She is also the head of the Taylor Swift fan club at the National Training Centre in Caversham.
At Paris 2024 she won a superb silver in the Women’s four with Helen Glover, Esme Booth, and Rebecca Shorten.
She is not related to Sir Steve Redgrave.
