Intro

Lucy Burgess was recruited to join the GB Rowing Team Start programme in 2007.

Lucy Burgess swapped sprint kayaking for rowing and quickly developed a real passion for the sport, becoming one of the top young scullers in the country.

Her first international racing experience came at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in 2010 where she won gold and silver medals in the junior women’s double sculls. In 2011 and 2012, Burgess was selected for the World Rowing Junior Championships and, alongside Jess Leyden, finished seventh in the junior women’s quad sculls. A year later, she produced some excellent performances at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival – she came away with a gold medal from the women’s fours, a bronze from the women’s eights, and was fourth in the women’s pairs.

Burgess stepped up to the under-23 team in 2014, racing in the women’s quad scull again, and finished fifth; she competed in the same boat two years later and finished eighth.

Beyond The Boat

Burgess is an enthusiastic baker – it helps her to unwind after training, and she dreams of a career as a professional cake-maker.

Michael McIntyre, Beyoncé and Jonny Wilkinson are her three ideal dinner party guests. Musically, she is a big fan of One Direction for both training and relaxing, but also loves to play the piano when she gets the chance.

Her top holiday destination is Mauritius, and her favourite film is Finding Nemo, “I love the magic of Disney”.
