2017 president of Cambridge University Boat Club and double Blue, Lance Tredell returns to international rowing after taking a break to pursue his studies.
Lance Tredell was selected for the GB men’s eight at the European Rowing Championships in 2012 where he finished 5th. The following season he raced in the eight again during the World Cup series – his best result was a fine gold medal at WCI in Sydney.
Having graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2015, Tredell went on to study at the University of Cambridge, earning a place in the Blue Boat in both 2016 and 2017. He was victorious in the 2016 Boat Race, where Cambridge beat Oxford by over two lengths, but was on the losing side the following year as president of CUBC.
At the 2017 GB Rowing Team Senior and U23 Trials, Tredell teamed up with Boat Race rival Oliver Cook in the men’s pair, finishing fourth in the final. Throughout 2017, Tredell was an ever-present in the men’s eight, winning silver and bronze in the World Cup series and finishing seventh at the World Championships in Sarasota-Bradenton.

Lance is a ‘self-confessed petrol head’ and is a big fan of motorsport; in another life he would love to be a formula one driver – given the chance he would swap places with Lewis Hamilton. Eminem, 2Pac and Biggie Smalls are his dream dinner party guests, and his go-to post race supper is steak, egg and chips.
A born entrepreneur, Lance started his own small business at the age of 12, trading electricals online.
Lance is lottery funded by UK Sport.
