James Johnston has made an impressive start to his international career, winning two silver medals from three consecutive World Rowing U23 Championships events
James Johnston began his rowing career as a junior at Bishop’s Rowing Club in Capetown, South Africa. He raced for South Africa at the 2011 and 2012 World Rowing Junior Championships before joining Leander Club in Henley-on-Thames in 2013. Here he won the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta and set a new course record.
James was selected to represent Great Britain at the 2014, 2015 and 2016 World Rowing U23 Championships. He won silver in the men’s four in 2015, and silver again in 2016 in the men’s eight. In 2017 he made his senior debut in the second men’s four at the World Cup regatta in Lucerne, finishing 10th
James is a graduate from Harvard University.
