Fun, friendly rowing takes centre stage at Explore Rowing Coordinators’ Day

Explore Rowing co-ordinators from across the country gathered in London on Saturday, for the second Explore Rowing Coordinators’ Network Day of the year.

The Network Day attracted close to 50 club rowing officials to Canterbury Hall, London, from as far afield as Newcastle and the Isle of Wight.

For attendees, the day offered a valuable opportunity to meet other representatives from Explore Rowing clubs, and to share ideas, news, and lessons learnt.

After a brief networking session, club representatives spent the morning discussing Learn to Row courses across the country – raising any issues facilitating the courses and offering advice where appropriate.

The afternoon then included brainstorming sessions for touring events, ‘fun regattas’, and challenges, which produced a number of exciting proposals for Explore Rowing events in the future – including the 2012 Explore Rowing Summer Series.

One of the key themes to emerge from these discussions was that rowing should be as fun as possible, with friendly, welcoming clubs offering a wide variety of ways to get out onto the water.

‘It was great to see such a wide range of clubs, watersport centres and Sea Cadet units come together to share their experiences and ideas,’ said Explore Rowing Programme Manager Rich Stock.

‘The enthusiasm and passion for the Explore Rowing programme was obvious – every single person had something to bring to the day and, hopefully, took some new ideas away with them. I think we could have carried on talking all weekend!’
