Aggar to open new Broxbourne boathouse
Broxbourne Rowing Club is preparing to welcome a special guest this weekend, with World and Paralympic champion Tom Aggar scheduled to open their new clubhouse on the River Lea.
The new clubhouse (pictured above, before and after renovation) has been built with the support of Sport England, British Rowing, the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, Rowing Foundation, Broxbourne Borough Council, and Epping Forest District Council, together with funds from individual donors and sponsors.
The official opening of the club house will take place on Saturday 1 October, with Aggar performing the official opening ahead of an evening party with dinner, drinks, and live music.
Aggar is one of the shining lights of elite adaptive rowing, having won Paralympic gold in 2008 and World Championship gold medals in 2007, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
In 2010, the International Rowing Federation said that Aggar – and Arms and Shoulders single sculler – had ‘set the standard in adaptive rowing’, and the 27-year-old was on top form once again at the World Championships in Bled, Slovenia, last month, demolishing the field on his way to a fourth World Championship title.
