Nottingham RC not deterred by Head cancellations

With the cancellation of both the Boston and Peterborough Head races ,due
to adverse weather conditions and faced with an ice covered lake at
Holme Pierrepont,National Watersports Centre ,the Nottingham Rowing
Club Junior Squad and their coaches moved onto the River Trent and ran
their own event between the Lady Bay Bridge and the Sailing Club.

20 boats were involved and they raced one behind the other down to the
Sailing Club and then back to Lady Bay.The times of the two runs were
added together and divided by 2. Conditions were cold, clear and there was a moderate cross-tail wind going downstream.

Fastest sculler of the day was Sam Ward from Bilborough College who
managed to beat a coxless pair stroked by Nik Parnell from Newark. Both
boats are coached by Martin Kay.

Fastest girl was Vicky Bramley,Bilborough College followed by Emma
Lindley,Carlton-le-Willows School and Katy Bartlett fom Holygirt School.
The girls are part of the World Class Start group coached by Julie
Edwards who is currently looking at putting together a junior (U 18 )
quadruple scull for the season.

‘It’s an indication of the strength of Junior rowing at the Club that
we can put on a training session like this with only half of the whole
squad on the water’.said Club Manager Mark Cooke.
