CCPR Sports Club of the Year

There's still time to apply for the CCPR Sports Club of the Year (SCOTY).

Sponsored by the Foundation for Sport and the Arts and Runningsports, SCOTY recognises the significant contribution of sport and recreation clubs at a grassroots level. The CCPR distributes over £15,000 to six clubs, with the ultimate winner claiming £6,000 and bespoke training courses. Two second prizes of £3,000 and three third prizes of £1,000 are also up for grabs.

British Rowing are proud to announce that Dudley Fletcher (from Doncaster Rowing Club) has been presented with an MBE by Princess Anne.

Dudley, aged 68, was awarded the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List at the end of 2009 for his dedication to the development of rowing in Doncaster.

Community or charitable organisations looking for IT equipment and online access can now apply for a BT Community Connections Award.

BT Community Connections is an award scheme which enables community and charitable organisations to get online. Groups can apply for a laptop and a year’s free broadband connection. Award packages will be given to groups who can demonstrate how an award will benefit their work and the local community.

Promote your club: Grassroots sport and recreation to benefit from TV BingoLotto

Sports and recreation clubs across the UK are set to benefit from the launch of an interactive TV game, BingoLotto. Participants will be able to buy a £2 Gamecard at the check-outs at every Tesco store throughout Britain and each Gamecard will raise 40 pence for good causes. The TV game, hosted by Ulrika Jonsson, is now being aired weekly on Virgin 1 every Sunday evening.

West Region Events Calendar 2009-10

Below are the dates for coaching courses, training camps and workshops in the West Region. These include the new fixed seat level one coxes course and the new rowing technique module which have been designed by the ARA in conjunction with the CPGA and CRA.
There are also two ARA child protection workshops for club welfare officers and junior coaches or volunteers.

FISA success for GB Umpires

The Amateur Rowing Association would like to congratulate Judith Packer from the Thames Region and Chris Anton, West Midlands Region, on their newly acquired status as FISA Umpires. [pictured front row]

FISA is the international federation for rowing and Chris and Judith passed the stringent written and practical exams in Vichy with flying colours, achieving the top two marks in the written paper.
