Six University Boat Clubs to take part in 60th Boat Race Anniversary Charity Challenge

In the 1950 Boat Race, Lord Snowdon, then Tony Armstrong-Jones coxed the Cambridge crew to victory over Oxford. This event will celebrate the 60th anniversary of that race and will raise funds for Lord Snowdon’s charity, The Snowdon Award Scheme which provides grants to students with a physical or sensory disability, to help them complete further or higher education or training.

The awards recognise those individuals and teams who have shown outstanding achievement or contribution towards sport, talented performances, dedication to coaching or have made a notable contribution towards organising the club.

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership mark 1,000 days until the Paralympics

With only 1,000 days to go until the 2012 Paralympic games, Liz Stone, an adaptive rowing member from Stratford upon Avon was asked by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership to talk about her equestrian Paralympic gold and silver at Atlanta ’96, and her new found sport rowing at Round Oak School in Warwick. This comes in the wake of an International Paralympics Committee decision to allow intellectually disabled athletes to compete at the Paralympic Games in athletics, swimming, rowing and table tennis from 2012.

Devon Adaptive Rowing Project Continues to Grow

The Devon Adaptive Rowing Project has recently completed its second term and is continuing to grow, with increasing numbers of young people taking part. The project has been funded by four of the School Sports Partnerships (SSPs) in Devon along with British Rowing, Sport England, the West Regional Rowing Council, Active Devon and the English Federation of Disability Sport. It aims to build upon the existing adaptive rowing opportunities and to provide adaptive rowing opportunities where none currently exist in Devon.

Talent 2012: Paralympic Potential

West Midlands Adaptive rowers at the BIRC

This year was the 19^th British Indoor Rowing Championships (BIRC) and the ninth consecutive year hosted at the National Indoor Arena (NIA) Birmingham. The BIRC is Britain’s largest participatory indoor sports event and what a fantastic day it was for West Midlands Adaptive Rowing.

Stratford upon Avon Boat Club entered two athletes and both won two medals in the trunk and arms category racing over the 1000-metre distance.

Typhoo Sports for All: free training for sports coaches

Sports coaches are set to benefit from the new Typhoo Sports for All project launched by footballing legend Sir Geoff Hurst.

Typhoo Tea Limited is partnering with the Federations of Disability Sport: English Federation of Disability Sport, Disability Sport Northern Ireland, Disability Sport Wales and Scottish Disability Sport to make sport more accessible for disabled men, women and children right across the UK. And 1966 World Cup legend Sir Geoff Hurst is lending his support.
