Olympic & Paralympic Heroes Parade

Olympic

Team GB celebrated its best performance at an Olympic games since 1908 with a parade through the streets of London. Britain's Olympic heroes were joined by their Paralympic colleagues as they made their way from the Mansion House to Trafalgar Square along crowd lined streets.

On reaching Trafalgar Square the sportsmen and women were greeted by cheers and enthusiastic flag-waving as they were introduced to the crowd by the BBC's Jake Humphries and Sue Barker. When all the athletes had reached the stage they were joined by a host of dignitaries including Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. Boris singled out Team GB's aquatic stars - rowing, sailing and swimming for special praise, describing their achievement as the "greatest aquatic triumph since Horatio Nelson won at the Battle of Trafalgar itself".

Following the obligatory ticker tape, the athletes moved off and made their way to Buckingham Palace where they were due to be greeted by the Queen.
