ARA Coach of the Year Awards 2008
The winners of the ARA Coach of the Year Awards 2008 have been announced. These annual awards are an opportunity for the rowing community to recognise and celebrate the tremendous contribution of our coaches (paid and unpaid) to the success of our sport. The awards will be presented at the National Coaching Conference 24th to 25th January by ARA Deputy Chairman Gary Harris.
The 2008 award winners are:
Young Coach of the Year
Barbara Couperthwaite - Bewl Bridge Rowing Club, South East Region
Junior Coach of the Year
Val Edwards – Runcorn Rowing Club, North West Region
Senior Coach of the Year
Ian Roots - Mortlake, Anglian and Alpha Boat Club, Thames Region
Paul Turner - Grosvenor Rowing Club, North West Region
Special Award for a Lifetime Contribution to Coaching
Brian Armstrong - Leander Club, Thames Region
Coaching Team of the Year
City of Oxford Rowing Club, Thames Region
Development Coach of the Year
Corin Margetson - Twickenham Rowing Club, Thames Region

ARA Coaching Conference
There is still time to book your place on the Coaching Conference. Make sure you don't miss out on the chance to listen to and meet some of rowing's most influential speakers and athletes. Among the key note speakers are:
- Jurgen Grobler, OBE shall be delivering a session on 'a Coach's perspective on Beijing'.
- Helene Raynsford, Paralympic gold medallist, will be talking about the athlete's perspective in Beijing.
