Monica Relph, part of Nottigham Rowing Club’s high performance group based at Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre and coached by Dez Atkins, has won the gold medal, rowing in a coxless four in the World University Championships in Hungary with girls from Durham University and Imperial College.
The crew qualified direct for the final beating the Netherlands in a tough scrap.
In the final, plagued by strong wind, Monica said, "It was a very good start, hard, focused and solid. An early lead meant that we could react to any move by the opposition. Now it’s time for a holiday!"
The GB crew went on to win with Romania second and Italy third. Monica won a gold medal in 2009 rowing in the Women’s U23 eight with Jaqui Round, also from Nottingham Rowing Club.
