As of 1st April 2012, a number of changes have been made to UKCC – the development framework that supports British Rowing’s coach-education programmes.

Olympic greats head to Dorney for EDF Challenge

[newsimage=0]Sir Steve Redgrave and Katherine Grainger are heading to Eton Dorney on Tuesday 1st May, ready to show their support as 40 young rowers take on the EDF Community Rowing Challenge.

Youngsters from five East London schools have spent four months training with London Youth Rowing for Tuesday’s event, which will see the crews battle it out on the water at the rowing venue for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Jaguar Academy supports 'rising star' from Northwich RC

[newsimage=1]Edward Grisedale of Northwich Rowing club was among fifty athletes, ‘the class of 2012’, invited to the Bursary Awards held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.  Edward represented Great Britain last year at the World Junior Rowing Championships in the double scull.

Row to the Pole on BBC One

[newsimage=0]On July 28th 2011, a six-strong crew of British rowers completed the first ever trek to the Magnetic North Pole by rowing boat.

Led by renowned rower and Arctic explorer Jock Wishart, the Row to the Pole crew rowed 450-miles through the Arctic Sea before arriving at the North Pole on August 25th.

Hosepipe Bans and 'Killer Shrimp'

Last year British Rowing was involved in the launch of Defra’s ‘Check Clean Dry’ campaign which urges all water users to take some simple steps to help prevent the spread of invasive non-native species between rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

Cornish Indoor Rowing Championships 2012

[newsimage=0]The Cornish Indoor Rowing Championships was held at Newquay Sports Centre on Sunday 18th March.  The event was run by British Rowing with equipment kindly lent by Newquay Tretherras and Newquay Treviglas Schools.  It was a day of great competition, featuring junior races, adult 2000m challenges, 500m sprints and a team relay.

Adaptive juniors shine in Plymouth

[newsimage=0]On Tuesday 21st February, four schools came together for an Indoor Rowing competition at Woodlands School, Plymouth, as part of the new School Games scheme Project Ability.

Special Educational Needs pupils from Hele's, All Saints, Woodlands and Mill Ford schools competed in two three-minute seeding races before battling it out in the seeded finals for a winners medal.

The finals saw some epic racing, especially in the final 30 seconds as each rower sprinted for the finish line.
