Durham University rowers celebrate Iconic Facilities investment

The Minister for Sport and the Olympic, Hugh Robertson MP, today opened a new £6.7m sports facility at Durham University’s Graham Sports Centre – which includes a £1m powered Indoor Rowing tank.

PLA announce temporary restrictions to Thames rowing

The Port of London Authority (PLA) has announced two months of restrictions to rowing on the River Thames Tideway, in the run up to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June.

Ahead of the 1000-strong Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on June 3rd, marine services will lay two lines of mooring trots in Barn Elms Reach – from just upstream of Barn Elms Boat Club to the Harrods Depository near Hammersmith Bridge.

Work on the mooring trots is expected to begin on or around April 10th, with buoys set to be removed in the week following the pageant.

Stratford launch new Explore Rowing singles

Stratford upon Avon Boat Club has taken delivery of two new Explore Rowing single sculls, specially designed for novices and recreational rowers.

Last year, Stratford Boat Club saw two Explore Rowing groups graduate from British Rowing’s Learn to Row course, which includes fifteen hours of rowing tuition – land and water-based – by Stratford Boat Club’s top coaches supplemented with British Rowing’s course material.

The film provides a simple guide to the unique Code of Conduct for safe rowing on the tidal Thames, useful for both newcomers to the Tideway and experienced rowers looking to refresh their knowledge.

Major events sign up for Row for Gold

Record-breaking Indoor Rowing in Plymouth

More than 430 schoolchildren took part in the Plymouth Schools Indoor Rowing Championships (PSIRC) on Wednesday 8th Februrary, smashing a number of records at University College Marjon, Plymouth.

Participants from schools across the region took part in the British Rowing-supported PSIRC, which is now in its seventh year.

Records were smashed in three of the girls’ events (Years 7, 9, and 11), and one of the boys’ (Year 12 & 13), with Plymstock and Wembury Schools winning the fiercely-contested team events.

EDF launches Community Rowing Challenge

Official London 2012 sponsor EDF launched the Community Rowing Challenge today (February 10th), inviting five East London schools to train for a special indoor rowing race at Eton Dorney in May.

Pupils from Cardinal Pole School, Connaught School for Girls, Royal Liberty School, Stepney Green School and Palmer Catholic Academy have been selected to take on the challenge, and were invited to a launch event at the London Eye.

Saracens FC try Indoor Rowing

Premiership rugby club Saracens FC enjoyed an afternoon of Indoor Rowing on Wednesday, in preparation for a charity race on the River Thames.

Members of the Explore Rowing team put the Saracens squad through their paces on indoor rowing machines at the Old Albanian Sports Club, St. Albans.

Boat Race welcomes women rowers to the Tideway

The Oxford and Cambridge University Boat Race celebrated a 'momentous day' today, with the announcement that the women's Boat Race will be given equal billing with the men's from 2015 onwards.

At a press conference in London this morning, new Boat Race sponsors BNY Mellon were revealed as the new Boat Race sponsors, and the investment management company's representatives immediately announced seismic changes to The Boat Race.
