Vicki Hansford
Vicki won gold in the adaptive mixed coxed four at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan; this success achieved by a crew with two rowers and the cox completely new to World Level rowing this year.
She raced in this boat class at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games and won a bronze medal, and has already won gold at the Varese International and Munich World Cup Regattas in 2009.
She started rowing in February 2006 having previously competed successfully in track athletics. At her first World Championships in Eton in 2006 she became World Champion in the LTA mixed coxed four. The following year she won a silver medal at the World Championships in Munich in the same event.
Before, being diagnosed with cancer and losing part of her right leg, she studied Physical Education at undergraduate level at Leeds Met University, where she also competed in the national netball league.
She is now studying for an MSc in Sports Psychology at Brunel University.
For the last six years, Vicki has worked as a Sports Development Manager at the University of Surrey.
