Tom Wilkinson
Tom was injured for the first two World Cups of the 2010 Series, but in Lucerne he raced in the men's eight winning a bronze medal.
Tom finished 5th in the men's eight at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan, after the crew achieved a direct A-Final qualification from their heat by overhauling Australia on the last stroke. He had established his place in the boat during the 2009 World Cup series, winning bronze in Banyoles and Munich and 4th in Lucerne. At the 2009 GB Rowing Senior Trials he finished 3rd in the pair with Tom Burton, establishing himself as a strong contender in the senior men's squad.
He is a graduate of the GB Rowing Team's Start Programme, sponsored by Siemens, which he joined in 2003. Since then he has achieved success on both the international and domestic stage.
Tom first represented Great Britain at junior level, racing in the men's quadruple scull in 2003 at the World Junior Championships finishing 6th.
He then represented GB at U23 level on three occasions. In 2005 he finished 5th in the men's coxed four at the World U23 Championships in Amsterdam and achieved the same result in 2006 in Hazewinkel. In July 2007 Tom won bronze in the pair at the Strathclyde World U23 Championships with Charles Burkitt.
Tom has also won various events at the Henley Royal Regatta in three successive years. In 2005 he won the Britannia Challenge Cup, a club coxed fours event, and then went on to win the men's quadruple scull event in 2006. Most recently, in 2007, Tom won the Visitors Challenge Cup.
Tom played rugby before he took up rowing.
He joined the police force after college, but put his career on hold in order to pursue his rowing, although he still works regularly as a Special Police Officer in Camden. His sporting idol is Phil 'The Power' Taylor.
