Stephen Feeney

Stephen raced in the lightweight men's four at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan, winning the C-Final, after having established his place in the Olympic lightweight class four for the 2009 World Cup series where he finished 5th in Banyoles, 4th in Munich and 6th in Lucerne.
He started rowing when he was 13 years old and trained under the tutelage of Bobby Platt MBE at Coleraine Academical Institution Boat Club. Stephen is one of several current GB rowers to have emerged from the Coleraine School's Boat Club. Alan Campbell and Richard Chambers both credit Platt with supervising their early careers in rowing. Stephen's first sport was rugby, which he started playing when he was 4. After trying rowing originally as a summer hobby following the end of the rugby season Stephen never returned to his original sport.
Stephen won a silver medal in the lightweight quad at the World U23 Championships in 2005 and was 6th in the lightweight four the following year. After long term rehab working through an injury he raced again in the lightweight four at the FISU World University Rowing Championships in 2008, taking 5th place.
Stephen studied Engineering at Newcastle University and is now about to complete a second degree which is a BSc in Sports Science at St Mary's University College, Twickenham. In his spare time Stephen enjoys going to music gigs and when he has the chance to go back to Coleraine, relaxing on the beach there.
Stephen is Lottery Funded through UK Sport.
