Rob Williams
For the 2010 World Cup Series Rob raced in the lightweight men's four, winning silver in Bled and gold in both Munich and Lucerne. This was an exceptional World Cup season for the four in a very competitive field.
Rob won the lightweight single at the 2009 GB Rowing Team Senior Trials in a dramatic finish, coming through in the closing stages to win by 0.2 seconds. This established him in the Olympic class double for 2009 in which he raced through the World Cup series taking 4th in Banyoles and Munich and 5th in Lucerne. At the 2009 World Rowing Championships in Poznan Rob and crewmate Paul Mattick were 6th.
He was a reserve at the Beijing Olympics, winning the spares' race for open and lightweight singles.
Rob's first season of international rowing was in 2006 when he raced in the lightweight four at the World U23 Championships, finishing 6th. In 2007 while still "under 23" Rob won a bronze medal at the World Championships in the lightweight quadruple scull. He raced in the lightweight quad at the 2008 Poznan World Cup and won bronze.
Rob started rowing at Maidenhead Rowing Club when he was 16. At university he spent his first season rowing for UCLBC after which he moved to London Rowing Club which is his current club.
Rob completed his undergraduate degree from UCL in the summer of 2006. He decided to continue his education by starting a PhD at UCL/Birkbeck in X–ray crystallography.
