Oli Mahony
At the 2009 World Championships in Poznan Oli finished a 5th in the lightweight men's pair with Ross Hunter. This followed a 7th place finish at the third World Cup in Lucerne.
In 2008 Oli raced in the lightweight men's four at the World University Rowing Championships and came 5th.
He started rowing at Imperial College Boat Club in 2004 whilst studying for an MEng in mechanical engineering, coached (and inspired) by Biill Mason. Oli took up rowing because, after moving to London, he found it too difficult to maintain the athletics training that he did as a junior. The need to take part in competitive sport was what made him start rowing. He finished his MEng in Australia where he continued to row for Sydney University.
As a junior he competed in track and field athletics. He was AAAs National Junior Champion in the pole vault and represented England Schools. He was also North of England sprint hurdles champion.
Oli, who is currently working on a PhD at Imperial College, enjoys travelling and other sports like skiing, mountain biking, running and climbing.
