Bob Hewitt

Bob raced in the lightweight men's four at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan, winning the C-Final. Earlier that year he raced in a lightweight pair with Chris Bartley at the GB Rowing Team Senior Trials, competing in the open-weight division, and finishing a creditable 5th in the A Final. Although still U23 he gained his place in the Olympic Class lightweight four for the 2009 World Cup series, placing 5th in Banyoles, 4th in Munich and 6th in Lucerne. He had been part of the GB Rowing Team's Start Programme, sponsored by Siemens, since 2006.
Bob started rowing at 14 years old after a friend suggested to him he might enjoy it. Before taking up rowing competitively he played rugby and did cross-country running to county level.
In 2004 he won two gold medals at the British Indoor Rowing Championships in the J18 lightweight men category and in 2005 in lightweight men. He was selected to represent Great Britain at the 2006 Youth Olympic Festival in Australia, where he won a silver in the men's eight. In 2007 Bob gained another GB vest when he finished 5th in the lightweight quad at the World U23 Championships and followed this with a 4th place in the same class in 2008.
For the last few years Bob has worked as a window cleaner, a job that he still does a couple of times a week around his training.
Bob is Lottery funded through UK Sport.
