Andrea Dennis

Andrea won a silver medal in the lightweight women's quad at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan, having put in a spirited performance to take second behind a strong German crew with USA third. Earlier in the season she raced in the lightweight women's double scull at the first 2 World Cups, taking 4th in Poznan and 6th in Munich, before moving to the lightweight quad.
She gained her first senior team vest in the lightweight single in 2007, creditably making the A final and finishing 5th. She also raced in the lightweight single at the 2008 World Cup in Munich winning a silver medal and later in the year raced at the World Cup in Poznan where she won a gold medal in the lightweight quadruple scull. She followed this with a 4th place at the 2008 World Championships in Linz in the lightweight women's quad. In the 2009 season A former county track athlete, Andrea started rowing at the age of 20 at Falcon Rowing Club in Oxford, when home from University for the summer. After a brief stint at novice rowing in her final year at the University of Leeds, she found renewed interest in the sport when returning to Oxford after graduating, and joined the City of Oxford Rowing Club.
Andrea rowed with the City of Oxford Rowing Club for 2 seasons, winning the National Championships in the lightweight four in 2004, before joining Wallingford Rowing Club in 2006 to learn to scull under the supervision of Rob Dauncy and Pete Sudbury.
She was selected for the England team for the Commonwealth Championships of 2006 in the lightweight women's single, coming home with a bronze medal.
Andrea currently works for Oxford Brookes University as a lab technician and demonstrator in Sport and Exercise Science and is also completing a PhD part time. Oxford Brookes University is hugely supportive of her rowing career. When Andrea isn't rowing she enjoys running and surfing.
