Max Gander

At the World Rowing U23 Championships in Amsterdam, Maxed coxed the men's eight, winning a bronze medal.

Max raced as cox of the men's coxed four at the 2010 World Rowing U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus, winning a bronze medal.  He then moved to the eight for the FISU World University Rowing Championships in Hungary, this time winning gold in a boat that took the lead from the start and continued to extend that lead, finishing a length ahead of Estonia, with Ireland in third place.

He started rowing at age 13 at Abingdon School as he didn't want to play hockey!  Max gained his first international vest in 2008 when he coxed the junior men's four to a silver medal at the World Rowing Junior Championships.  He was a member of the GB squad that competed in the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival, where he took gold in the men's eight.  Also that year he raced at the World Rowing U23 Championships, reaching 8th place in the men's coxed four.

When not rowing Max enjoys playing the guitar, listening to experimental jazz and watching sumo wrestling.
