Kelsie Gibson
Kelsie raced in one of two GB LTAMix4+ boats at the first World Cup of 2011 in Munich where she won a bronze medal with crewmates Luke Almond, Kate Jones, Ryan Chamberlain and cox Rhiannon Jones.
At the 2010 World Rowing Championships on Lake Karapiro in New Zealand, Kelsie - with crewmates Ryan Chamberlain, Kate Jones, James Roe and cox Rhiannon Jones - won a silver medal in the adaptive mixed coxed four. They narrowly led the race until the dying 100m when the Canadians surged to take the lead, crossing the line four-tenths of a second ahead of the British boat to win gold. Germany took the bronze. This was a fine achievement for Kelsie who was a new member of the Adaptive development squad for 2010, having impressed at the Adaptive trial in January.
In May 2010 she raced in the LTA mixed coxed four at the Varese International Adaptive Regatta, winning gold on both days. She then competed in the same boat at the first World Cup in Bled, again taking gold.
Kelsie first decided to learn to row in 2008 and whilst on Maidstone Invicta Rowing Club's waiting list competed in the adaptive race at the Kent Schools' indoor rowing competition. She won this race and came second in the able bodied race, qualifying to compete in the national junior indoor rowing championships. Here she raced in the adaptive race and took the title. She eventually joined Maidstone Invicta in June 2009.
Prior to rowing, Kelsie was a competitive swimmer, reaching and winning junior and senior national swimming competitions. She still swims when she's not rowing and also enjoys going to the cinema and concerts.
She lives with her mum Christine and brother Josh, and having achieved 12 GCSE passes in 2009, Kelsie is now studying Chemistry, Human Biology, Psychology and Physical Education at AS level. She hopes to get into Reading University to study Psychology and compete in the 2012 Paralympics.
