Kate Jones
Kate raced in one of two GB LTAMix4+ boats at the first World Cup of 2011 in Munich where she won a bronze medal with crewmates Luke Almond, Kelsie Gibson, Ryan Chamberlain and cox Rhiannon Jones.
At the 2010 World Rowing Championships on Lake Karapiro in New Zealand, Kate - along with crewmates Ryan Chamberlain, James Roe, Kelsie Gibson and cox Rhiannon Jones - won a silver medal in the adaptive mixed coxed four. They narrowly led the race until the dying 100m when the Canadians surged to take the lead, crossing the line four-tenths of a second ahead of the British boat to win gold. Germany took the bronze. This was a fine achievement for Kate who was a new member of the Adaptive development squad for 2010, having been identified through the UK Sport 'Talent 2012' Paralympic Potential Programme in January last year.
She first took up rowing in 2005 as a fresher at Newcastle University because she wanted to try a new sport. At the BUSA Regatta in 2008 she won gold medals in the women's junior pair and double and a silver in the womens quadruple scull. She went on to become Scottish Champion in the women's pair at the 2010 Scottish Rowing Championships, with crewmate Alexandria Gemie, and also won the intermediate women's single scull at the same event.
When not rowing, Kate enjoys most outdoor sports, including hill walking, cycling, kayaking and skiing, and she also likes cooking, photography, languages and travel.
Kate is supported by Guide Dogs for the Blind.
