Jono raced in the lightweight men's four at the 2010 World Rowing U23 Championships in Brest, Belarus, winning gold. At the 2009 World U23 Championships he won a bronze medal in the lightweight men's quad.
Jono took up rowing at age 13 whilst at school. Although he competed in several other sports, rowing was the sport he enjoyed the most. In 2007 he won a bronze medal in the CH4x at the National Schools Championships and the same year took another bronze at the National Championships in the J18 single scull. He also went to the Coupe de la Jeunesse in 2007 as a spare. He competed again at the National Schools Championships the following year, winning a gold medal in the CH4x.
He was a member of the GB squad that competed in the 2009 Australian Youth Olympic Festival, where he won gold in the lightweight men’s double scull and men’s eight as well as a silver in the men’s quadruple scull. He also did well at Henley in 2009 winning the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup.
He is currently undertaking a course in personal training which he would like to use after he has stopped rowing. When not rowing Jono enjoys coaching at Sir William Borlase's Grammar School, where he originally learnt to row.
