Chris Boddy

At the 2012 GB Rowing Team Senior Trials held on 10/11 March at Eton/Dorney, Chris was 5th in the lightweight men's single scull.

Chris raced in the lightweight men's double with Jono Clegg at the 2011 European Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria and finished 6th.

In Munich at the first World Cup of 2011 Chris and Adam Freeman-Pask finished 8th in the lightweight men's pair.

At the 2010 World Rowing Championships held on New Zealand's Lake Karapiro, Chris with crewmate Adam Freeman-Pask was placed 6th in the final of the lightweight men's pair.

For the 2010 World Cup Series, Chris also raced in the lightweight men's pair with Adam Freeman-Pask, winning a bronze medal in Bled and taking 4th place at Munich and Lucerne.

Chris first took up rowing at Yarm School in 1999 under Richard Harandon, who had only introduced rowing to the school two years earlier.  During his time at school he won several national medals including the 2006 National Schools and National Championship gold medals in junior quads - a boat type that he and his school crew raced to victory for England at the Home Interenational Regatta that same summer, coached by Andy Guest.

After leaving school he trained at his hometown club (Tees Rowing Club) and was selected for the Great Britain squad for the 2007 Youth Olympic Festival in Australia, where he won two silver medals, in the lightweight double scull and in the men’s eight.

He gained his first World Championship vest in 2007 when he finished 5th in the lightweight quad at the World U23 Championships.  In  2008 he was once again selected for the World U23 Team and finished 4th in the same event.

Although still eligible as an U23, Chris raced in the lightweight Olympic class men's four at the 2009 World Championships in Poznan, winning the C-Final, after competing in the same boat class for the World Cup series where the crew made the A-Final in all three regattas.

Chris is an avid follower of anything to do with sport, especially football and Formula One, as well as having a keen interest in the news and events of his homeland - Teesside.  He is also a keen musician having passed his Grade 8 in cello at the age of eleven and piano at fourteen, also recently adding bass guitar to his array of instruments.  He took a break from music for a short time, but has started doing occasional freelance work again now he is settled in the south.

He has deferred his place at university in order to train full time at Caversham and live in Henley, now representing Leander Club.

Chris is Lottery Funded through UK Sport.
