BOSTON TRIALS CANCELLED

With regret, tomorrow's trial at Boston has been cancelled. This is because of severe weather warnings for the South East and East Anglia posted by the Met Office and travel organisations.

Squad members will be contacted by their chief coaches to arrange training for tomorrow.

Cold venue for some potentially hot GB Rowing Team contests

Boston in Lincolnshire looks set to be the somewhat frigid venue for a number of hotly-contested races this Saturday (19 December) between returning Olympians and current or former world medallists when the GB Rowing Team Winter Assessment starts there at 10.30am.

Mark Hunter, winner of 2008 Olympic gold in the lightweight men's double scull, tops the bill in the lightweight men's list as he returns after a year of coaching in California to test himself against rowers such as Rob Williams and Paul Mattick, who raced that double scull in 2009.

Aggar wins Inaugural FISA Award

Tom Aggar, reigning world and Paralympic champion, has been named as World Rowing's Adaptive Crew of the Year by the sport's governing body, FISA. He is the inaugural winner of this Award which makes its first appearance on the FISA roll of honour in 2009.

Grainger is named Scottish Sportsperson of the Year

Katherine Grainger has been named the Scottish Sportsperson of the Year. The three-times GB Olympic silver medallist received the Award, and the Emirates Lonsdale Trophy, at a Commonwealth Games Scotland Award ceremony.

Armstrong and Boulton take prestigious awards

GB Rowing Team Lead Coach for Juniors, Richard Boulton, has won the prestigious Performance-Development Coach of the Year Award which was presented at the UK Coaching Awards Dinner in London last night.

Boulton, who has coached crews to junior gold at three of the last four World Rowing Junior Championships, was nominated for his exceptional coaching and leadership of the programme for GB juniors.

Flood takes women's title whilst Nichol takes surprise second at the season's big indoor rowing event

Double Olympic silver medallist Debbie Flood won the season's big indoor rowing event at the weekend in Birmingham in a time of 6:52.2.

Competing at the National Indoor Arena, the Olympic silver medallist was pleased with her win despite only recently returning to training after a year out: "I’m pleased with my time today, although I know I can do better. I have to be realistic as I haven’t got back into my training pattern properly yet".

GB Rowing Team disperse to clubs in lead-up to Fours Head

The GB Rowing Team squads disperse back to their clubs this week to train in the lead-up to the Fours Head race which will see Londoner and Olympic gold medallist Mark Hunter return to competitive racing for the first time since winning the lightweight men's double scull with Zac Purchase at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Olympic champions Mark Hunter, Zac Purchase and Tom James as well as twice Olympic silver medallists Debbie Flood and Frances Houghton have returned to action this week with The GB Rowing Team after a year's break from the sport.

Cox Acer Nethercott, winner of Olympic silver in Beijing, has also indicated his intention to return to the squad when the coxes join the programme later in the season.
