Thousands celebrate National Paralympic Day

Thousands of people across the UK took part in National Paralympic Day on Saturday (30th August) – celebrating the very best of disability sports at community events in London, Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow.

As well as appearances from high-profile Paralympic athletes, the events offered new and experienced sportsmen alike the opportunity to try a range of different sports – from boccia to wheelchair basketball, indoor rowing to wheelchair rugby.

More than 600 people had a go at indoor rowing at the London event, which was held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – home of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex was among the visitors, describing the event as “a fantastic opportunity to watch exciting Paralympic competitions, be amazed by artistic performances and have a go at sports you have never tried before.”

British Rowing’s Rowability Project Officers supported the indoor rowing opportunities on National Paralympic Day, enabling thousands of people to find out more about rowing.
